Congratulations to alpine skier Adam Hall, who was named Otago Poytechnic Para Athlete of the Year at the Central Otago Sports Awards on Thursday night.

Pete Eley (Head of Programmes, Outdoor and Adventure Education) and Stefan Austin (Senior Lecturer) represented Otago Polytechnic and our Central campuses (Cromwell and Wānaka) at the awards, which are dedicated to celebrating sporting excellence across the region.

This is the first year Otago Polytechnic has sponsored the Para Athlete category, and we were especially honoured that both of the 2025 finalists were former students of ours.

(Adam graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Applied Management (in Sport Management) through Capable NZ.  And fellow finalist, seated athletics thrower Mac Denniston, was a Trades Academy student at our Central campus last year, studying Sports Turf Management.)

Both Adam and Mac have gone on to achieve incredible success in their respective sports, and we are proud to see them recognised among Central Otago’s best.

Unfortunately, Adam's busy training schedule meant he was out of town for the event, but his continued achievements on the world stage are an inspiration to our current ākonga and alumni alike.

Our thanks to Sport Central for organising a fantastic night celebrating local talent in the region.
