It was a loud and busy four days at the South Island Secondary School Netball Tournament held 25–28 August at the Edgar Centre.
Otago Polytechnic students and kaimahi were on hand to make it a standout event – and the organisers gave extremely positive feedback about our involvement.
It was a great opportunity for OP students to use their skills at a large event, with students from all around the South Island there to compete.
It was a real cross-team effort, with 22 ākonga gaining experience in:
- Massage – 150 hours of massage experience that was provided for players and umpires, keeping them in tip-top form.
- Photography – 12 students captured the tournament, and the organisers were blown away by the quality of the images. These were used on social media and will be kept for future event promotion.
- Event management – 4 Event Management students participated, and the organisers said they could easily recommend them to any employer for outstanding work.
Vet Nursing, Culinary Art, Carpentry and Liaison kaimahi were all on hand to showcase OP through a variety of hands-on activities. Culinary Art’s ‘guess the ingredients’ challenge was a hit, and the Vet Nursing model dog became a photobooth superstar.
We also furnished a chill out zone with bean bags, golf putting and Connect Four.
OP supported the tournament with prizes for two areas:
- 50 talented players received our branded OCHO chocolates
- Winning teams received a branded hand towel
We were thrilled with the level of engagement throughout the tournament.
Many thanks to the kaimahi and ākonga who contributed to making this a memorable experience for the players, coaches, umpires and supporters.
