Gift merchandise

NEED: Otago Museum wanted to find a way to both record and raise public awareness of the many artefacts and treasures that are not often on show for various reasons.

CAPABILITIES USED: DESIGN-LED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, RAPID PROTOTYPING (USING CAD MODELLING AND 3D PRINTING), PRODUCT EVALUATION, PRODUCT TESTING

 SOLUTION: We created a new line of merchandise by 3D scanning various objects, then reverse engineering each object’s cloud data to transform them into 3D printable files. The objects were reproduced in high-end materials (gold, polished steel and nickel) so they became highly desirable statement jewellery pieces.

IMPACT: People could take a piece of the museum home with them, and the pieces have generated additional revenue for the museum gift shop.
