NEED: As part of a revitalisation plan for the warehouse precinct, the Dunedin City Council was looking for functional yet playful seating that reflected the location’s history where land and sea met in early Dunedin.

CAPABILITIES: DESIGN-LED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, PRODUCT TESTING, PRODUCT EVALUATION, SHORT-RUN PRODUCTION, COMMUNICATION DESIGN

SOLUTION: We designed and constructed seating which echoes the shape of ship sails and waves. The seating incorporates sleepers in a nod to the 150-year-old jetty, and song lyrics from iconic Dunedin bands are carved into the seats as a tribute to the musicians who once frequented the area.

IMPACT: The seating further beautifies the area and increases the ease of public usability of the space, by providing a place for people to relax and gather. The designs will be reused in similar locations around the city.
